Krombacher Factsheet 2021 – ENGLISCH

PRODUCT CONSERVE

PRODUCT CONSERVE RESOURCES Malt, water, hops and yeast - that‘s all it takes to brew a Krombacher true to the German Purity Law. For us, brewing sustainably for future generations means careful and considerate use of resources and consistent quality assurance. WHAT DOES SPECIFIC WATER CONSUMPTION MEAN? Water is our most important resource. A Krombacher Pils consists of 92 % water. But water is also needed at many other points in the production process, such as for cleaning the equipment. We have developed our own water cycle to ensure responsible use. In 2021, the specific water consumption was 3.73 litres per litre of beer and with that slightly above the previous year‘s figure. This is mainly due to the increasing demand for non-alcoholic beers, which due to the dealcoholisation process consume more water than our alcoholic beers. We are in the process of optimising this process and further reducing consumption. We have set ourselves the goal of reducing water consumption to 3.2 hl/hl by 2030. This is an ambitious goal, considering that we already have a very good value for the industry. Krombach is located in one of the most densely forested and rainy regions in Germany, but even here the bark beetle and drought have led to clear-cuts. In order to further optimise our overall water footprint, we are engaged in targeted reforestation. Sustainable mixed forests are being created around our brewery, which serve as natural water reservoirs and improve the water balance in our region. 12 12

DID YOU KNOW? „Natural durability“: The bitter substances in the hops cause, among other things, a natural durability and a beautifully compact, firm and stable foam crown. 100% of our hops come from the Hallertau region in Bavaria. It is the largest hop-growing region in the world and is famous for its special quality. Our master brewers test the high quality and aroma of the Hallertau seal hops directly at the hop growers‘ premises. HOW MUCH MALT DO YOU NEED PER YEAR? In 2021, a total of 81,975 t of malt were used in the production of our products. The first station for the brewing malt is our quality control. For our products, we only take two-row spring barley that meets our high standards. DID YOU KNOW? Among other things, the malt gives our Krombacher products their colour and full-bodiedness. 13 13
